Opening Speech

Antony Stokes has been Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba since October 2016. Previously he served as Ambassador-at-Large for Climate, and from 2010-2014 as Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a period which saw a rapid strengthening of UK-Vietnam relations.

Antony has also served as Head of Mission to Latvia. As Head of the FCO’s South Asia Department, he covered UK relations with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives. As Political Counsellor in Seoul, South Korea, he worked on the establishment of a UK diplomatic presence in North Korea. His first diplomatic posting was to Thailand, where he was also accredited to Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Antony has also worked in several managerial roles in the private sector. He holds an MA in Electrical Sciences from Queen’s College, Cambridge and a PhD in fibre-optics from University College London.

Mr. Essam possesses over two decades of professional experience in Occupational Health, having worked with prestigious organizations including Ministry of Health, Integrated Environmental Solutions Co., and Kuwait Oxygen Co. He has been working with the Kuwait Oil Company since June 2007 and is presently in charge as the Industrial Hygienist. His specific skill areas include but not limited to the noise & IAQ measurements, gas testing, and food & drinking water quality, as well as HSE Training, and auditing.


Mr. Essam has presented many papers on Occupational Health and Safety at local as well as international conferences and forums. He has a B. Sc. In Occupational and Environmental Health from Jordan University of Science and Technology, followed by a M.Sc. in Environmental Science from Kuwait University.

Mr. Gwynn Ginson is a registered nurse and is an active ACLS (or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Instructor of the American Heart Association. Before coming to Kuwait, he worked as a coronary care unit nurse. Previously, he worked as an anesthesia nurse and was part of the code blue team. He was also part of the Operating Theater Accreditation Team for Accreditation Canada from 2010-2013. Presently, he is working in Operating Theater of Ahmadi Hospital.

His interest is in the field of adult health and critical care nursing. He is taking his Master of Arts in Nursing Majoring in Adult Health Nursing. His proposed study for his thesis is about activating nurse-led rapid response team. He has just finished his pilot studies in one of the private hospital in Kuwait.
