Mr Hashem Sayed Hashem

Hashem S. Hashem is the Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), since May 2013.  With over 7500 employees, KOC is one of the top ten producers of oil in the world, and the main revenue generator for the State of Kuwait.

A recognized leader of the oil and gas industry in Kuwait, Hashem has directed a variety of key initiatives across KOC achieving an expansion of the company’s reserves and production to unforeseen levels, with his engaging vision, commercial rigor and a demonstrated project delivery excellence.

Hashem joined KOC in 1987, in a variety of petroleum and reservoir engineering posts in West Kuwait.  Subsequently, he was appointed superintendent of Umm Gudair Field Development in 1996, and of Burgan Field Development in 1997. His senior leadership roles of corporate outreach start in 1998, as superintendent of the Reservoir Management Division, Head of Strategic Planning in 199, and Technical Manager of the strategic Kuwait Project in 2002.  In 2003, he became the Manager of Fields Development (South & East Kuwait), a strategic role in KOC, responsible for the planning and the development of the Greater Burgan, the world’s second largest oil field.  In 2006, he served as Manager of the Jurassic fields development, and in this capacity he pioneered the development of a gas field for KOC.

He was KOC Deputy Managing Director of South and East Kuwait from 2007 through 2013, and in this capacity, Hashem was instrumental in meeting KOC’s strategic goal of 3 million barrels of oil per day ahead of schedule, and guided a substantial increase in Greater Burgan Field reserves, extending the longevity of production to serve many generations in Kuwait, which constitutes the most significant achievement of any leader in the history of KOC.

Hashem also serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Kuwait Oil Tankers Company (KOTC) since July 2013.  He earned his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Kuwait University in 1987, and is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
