Dr Steven Flynn

Former Group Head of Health Safety Security and Environment

Steve is BP’s Global Head of Risk, Learning and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), and is based in the UK.

Steve has Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.

Steve has worked with BP for over 29 years, initially in minerals and environmental technology, then a variety of HSE management roles in BP’s Exploration and Production businesses, including the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and the BP corporate center.

Steve returned to London in 2005 to support executive management in developing the strategic response following the Texas City explosion and fire, and took over as head of BP’s global HSE function in 2007.

Steve led BP’s HSE technical support to the Deepwater Horizon incident response during 2010 and also testified before the US Congress.  Steve is currently a member of the global Safety and Operation function leadership in BP.
